AgSensor Solutions Named to NSF Funded Engineering Research Center Advisory Board
AgSensor Solutions, a platform company designed to help sensor creators move agricultural applications to market more quickly, has been named to the Industrial Practitioner Advisory Board (IPAB) of the Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag).
IoT4Ag is a National Science Foundation (NFS) funded research center headquartered at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science. The center is a partnership of the University of Pennsylvania, Purdue University, the University of California-Merced, and the University of Florida devoted to addressing food, energy and water security through advanced agricultural technologies.
Center director, Dr. Cherie Kagan, the Stephen J. Angello Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering and the Associate Dean for Research for Penn Engineering, describes IoT4Ag’s role as “Creating new technology to meet the challenges of a world with a growing population and changing climate. We must produce more food and fiber with every drop of water and every joule of energy used in agriculture. The IPAB plays a vital role in helping shape the strategic directions for our research efforts.”
“Our goal in starting AgSensor Solutions was to bring an integrated approach to developing sensor technology in agriculture,” said Mike DeSa, AgSensor managing director. “That is exactly the focus of IoT4Ag in precision agriculture. We know we have much to contribute to that effort.”
In addition to helping set the strategic direction of IoT4Ag, members of the IPAB:
- Gain early access to results of research conducted by the Center;
- Have the opportunity to sponsor specific research projects;
- Have the right to recommend patent application filings for technologies developed through the Center and receive an option to negotiate for licenses to such rights; and
- Participate in knowledge exchange and educational programs, and gain access to technical experts from academia, industry, and government in the fields of agronomy; sensor, energy, and communication technologies; robotics; information and decision systems; precision agriculture; and food security.
Members of the IPAB range from industry leaders in ag-tech, to innovative start-ups, non-profit organizations, and state agriculture departments. A list of current board members can be found here.

AgSensor is a collaboration of three established firms:
- AGD Consulting. A veteran-owned, Texas-based strategic advisory firm servicing the global agricultural technology, food, and investments sectors.
- LogiSync. A Cleveland-based organization with expertise in providing wireless IoT solutions for sensor technologies in multiple industries, moving them from the R&D phase into fully documented manufacturing programs.
- Tallgrass Technology Partners. A Kansas City area-based animal health, agricultural business, and technology-focused commercialization company.
AgSensor Solutions is working with university faculty and researchers, corporations established in other areas of IoT sensor creation, small teams and individuals with innovative and disruptive sensor technologies, and organizations such as tech accelerators and capital aggregators.
