Getting Weed Control Right the First Time More Important than Ever
Farmers like to be right. And 2022 is a year where being right will be key, with increased weed pressure, unpredictable weather and potential supply issues creating a more challenging crop season for corn growers.
Helping farmers to plan ahead, start off strong, and do it right the first time, when it comes to corn herbicide application, will be essential.
Planning Ahead
While BASF is optimistic it will have the supply needed for farmers, it’s also important to encourage farmers to plan ahead for weed control. Helping them determine what products they want to apply and when can go a long way toward a successful season, especially considering there may not always be an opportunity for unplanned applications.
That’s where Status® herbicide comes in. When farmers include Status herbicide as part of their post-emergence application, they get performance that eliminates the need for an additional pass in post, saving them time, money and stress.
“Status can provide peace of mind at a time when that’s more needed than ever,” said Daniel Waldstein, Technical Marketing Manager, BASF Agricultural Solutions. “
Weed Control Done Right
A strong in-season weed management program means having confidence in the superior weed control and crop safety that your post-emergence application will deliver. Every advantage contributes to a stronger bottom line, and it’s important to use a product like Status herbicide that delivers the first time.
Unfortunately, many farmers consider Status herbicide a rescue treatment that they turn to when/if the lower-cost options don’t work. That ultimately can cost farmers more time and money than doing it right the first time with a product like Status herbicide.
“When farmers don’t begin with the end in mind, they ultimately are sacrificing something – performance, ROI, safety or flexibility,” said Waldstein. “Status offers superior broadleaf weed control while helping manage glyphosate resistance.”
Managing resistance has become even more important as the intensifying effects of climate change and variable weather are impacting weed management. Research has shown that growing crops in a changing climate is extremely difficult and adding weeds to the scenario only magnifies an already challenging situation. Achieving greater weed control is essential to help farmers avoid yield loss.
Using Status herbicide gives farmers the performance they need no matter their growing environment. Status starts working within hours. It helps control nearly 200 broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to glyphosate and/or HPPD inhibitors. Status herbicide also features multiple sites of action, which means superior efficacy and resistance management.
Doing It Right the First Time
While doing it right the first time could be considered the rallying cry for Status in general, it also applies to the importance of applying Status correctly and safely.
Status herbicide has proven crop safety so farmers can focus on killing weeds, not worrying about damage to their crop.
“Proper application of Status can help ensure it works as intended, giving farmers fast, effective control of weeds,” said Waldstein. “It also offers superior corn crop safety compared to other dicamba and mesotrione containing products on the market.”
