Purdue, Agricultural Retailers Association Partner with Arizona State for 2019 Management Academy

Purdue University’s Center for Food and Agricultural Business and the Agricultural Retailers Association will again partner with Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business to present the 2019 ARA Management Academy, Jan. 29-31, on the ASU campus in Tempe.

The three-day workshop offers best management practices and take-home tools in an environment that encourages collaboration with peers through engaging interactive exercises, faculty-led presentations and small group discussions. The academy is specifically designed for those who currently work or plan to work in management capacities at agronomic organizations.

“Leaders develop reputations by what they do rather than who they are,” said Suzanne Peterson, associate professor at Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management. “Therefore, the leader must find the right behaviors that drive the reputation, style, or results they want regardless of their temperament. In the end, no one can make a leader engage in certain behaviors. It is a choice to do so; therefore, it’s a choice to be a leader.”

In addition to Peterson, Purdue’s Michael Gunderson, center director and professor of agricultural economics, and Scott Downey, associate center director and associate professors of agricultural economics, will facilitate program sessions. Additional ASU faculty presenters are Thomas Kull, associate professor of supply chain management, and Mark Manfredo, professor and director of the Morrison School of Agribusiness.

Program topics include marketplace trends and competitive positioning, strategic thinking, examining profitability, creating value for customers, implementing organizational leadership strategies, and operations and supply chain management.

Participants will learn how to use decision analysis tools for optimal operation, evaluate profitability and performance, differentiate their organizations, and thrive in environments with constant change.

This program is especially valuable for salespeople, agronomists and middle managers who expect to have more management responsibilities in the future.

The program early bird rate for ARA members is $2,495 through Dec. 14. After that, the program is $2,695 for members. Non-members can register for $2,995. Learn more about the academy and register here.
