MAGIE 2017: The Year of New Products

By their nature, Midwest AG Industries Expositions (MAGIEs) tend to have unofficial themes associated with them. For example, the 2007 show was the Year of Autosteer, as a few suppliers introduced these systems to self-propelled sprayers. The 2011 show was the Year of the 30th anniversary of the event, complete with a ribbon-cutting and special give-aways at many exhibitor booths. A few years back, the Year of Drones would have been an apt descriptor.

For the 2017 show, which takes place August 23-24 in Bloomington, IL, the theme is equally easy – the Year of New Products. Having attended MAGIE shows since 2001, I remember several where a handful of new products were vying for attendee attention. But 2017 is completely over the top. For fans of “the new,” there will be several sprayers to drive, spreaders to test out, and tenders to inspect. There will also be several new blenders, precision agriculture systems, and tires to boot.

As CropLife magazine has done for the past decade or so, a trio of young ladies will be roaming the fairgrounds with surveys, asking attendees which of these numerous new products they found most intriguing. At the end of Wednesday, August 23, the product with the most votes will be awarded the annual ShowStopper Award for MAGIE 2017.

In the coming weeks, we will review all the new products featured at the MAGIE online and in print, including comments from show attendees, both positive and negative (if there are any of the latter). In the meantime, fans for Big IRON should prepare themselves for an extremely exciting 2018 season!
