Daily Dicamba Update: Application Rate Tips and Pointers

While it can perhaps be argued that some federal label requirements could lend themselves to a bit of subjective analysis on the part of the applicator, the labels for Engenia, Xtendimax, and FeXapan are quite clear regarding application rates.

The labels for applications made to Xtend soybean or cotton calls for following spray solutions per acre:

  • BASF Engenia: 12.8 fluid ounces of product, with a minimum of 10 gallons of carrier volume.
  • Monsanto Xtendimax: 22 fluid ounces of product, with a minimum of 15 gallons of carrier volume. For preplant applications only, the product rate can be increased up to 44 fluid ounces.
  • DuPont FeXapan: 22 fluid ounces of product, with a minimum of 15 gallons of carrier volume. For preplant applications only, the product rate can be increased up to 44 fluid ounces.

It bears noting that these product labels prohibit them from being applied via any and all irrigation equipment (a practice known as weed & feed).

Documentation reminder:

It is important to remember that applicators are required to report product rate, total amount used, herbicide manufacturer, brand name, and formulation used, and of course, the herbicide’s EPA registration number. Documentation of all products in the tank mix (for each individual application job), as well as whether the application was pre- or post-emergence (if post must report number of days application is being made after planting) and application pressure used, among other data points are also to be reported by the applicator.
