In 1953, the first Farm Progress Show was held. Today, seven decades later, the event is still going strong. Splitting its location between Boone, IA, in even numbered years and Decatur, IL, in odd numbered years, this year’s show drew several thousand attendees over the course of its three days.

At the Case IH exhibit, Farm Progress attendees could see one of the first Farmall tractors ever made, the Farmall 1. This particular unit was designed by International Harvester engineer Bert Benjamin in 1924 and featured a 3.6-liter gas/kerosene engine with a 74-hp capacity.

Celebrating history, one part of the 2023 Farm Progress show featured Farmall machines, some dating back almost 100 years. This included this metal spiked tire on a 1927 McCormick Deering tractor.

At the Fendt AGCO booth, 2023 Farm Progress attendees were able to see plenty of new products for agriculture. This included the company’s first self-propelled sprayer featuring the Massey Ferguson name. The 500R Series of units come in two models – the 525R, built with a 740-gallon product tank, and the 530R, made with an 860-gallon product tank. All 500R Series sprayers are equipped with AGCO’s LiquidLogic System.

At a press conference held before Farm Progress officially opened, Corteva Agriscience announced the market launch of a new fungicide called Viatude. Featuring two active ingredients – picoxystrobin and prothioconazole – Viatude is designed to combat white mold in soybeans. “White mold is one of the most significant crop diseases soybean farmers in that northern geography deal with – it causes millions of dollars in yield loss every year,” said Clark Smith, U.S. Fungicides Product Manager. “Viatude fungicide provides complete plant coverage with its rapid absorption and translocation.”

The KSi 4808NGA Seed Applicator features patented technology and design elements focused on accurate initial chemical application and a progressive seed conditioning and polishing process. According to the company, this results in uniform seed coverage, reduced stickiness, and marketable appearance with reliable plant-ability.

At the Calmer Corn Heads booth, younger Farm Progress attendees could see this example of a Merry Go Round. It was shown with horses featuring the company’s distinctive foam corn headgear.

Raven Industries has been involved with autonomous vehicles for many years now, and the company used the 2023 Farm Progress show to showcase its latest offering in this area – the OmniPower Grain Cart Automation. This unit was demonstrated in a test field at the show, and Raven is now accepting pre-orders for the units going into the 2024 growing season.

Taking a different approach to field scouting, Ryse Aero Tech introduced a manned aerial vehicle at its Farm Progress booth. Called the Recon Solution Series 101, the unit is designed to help users avoid soil compaction by flying above crop fields instead of walking or driving a heavy piece of ground equipment through them.

Bayer Crop Science showed off plenty of product offerings at its indoor building on the Farm Progress grounds. Among these was one of the company’s newest products – Preceon Smart Corn, engineered to produce the same yields as larger stature corn but improving plant stand ability.
