Galloping Forward: CPDA Annual Meeting to Take Place During Derby Week

The Council of Producers and Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA)’s upcoming Adjuvants, Inerts, and Crop Protection Conference will take place in Louisville, KY, during Derby Week, May 1–3. CPDA President Terry Kippley shares insight into the event.

“Last year’s conference attracted its largest attendance ever, more than doubling previous events with over 250 attendees from 110 companies. To build on that success, CPDA’s focus for this year’s conference will be on market intelligence. The feedback we’re hearing from our members is that in order to deliver to our grower customers the products they need, when they need it, market intelligence is key. To that end, this year’s conference will have a variety of sessions with industry experts covering key aspects of the crop protection, adjuvant and inerts business. We will also highlight sourcing, global trade, and advocacy.”

Kippley added: “Last year, our biggest draw was our Distribution Executive Leadership Panel, which represented more than 60% of national distribution. This year, we will feature another executive panel, one that is focused on a vertical view of our supply chain ecosystem.

“This year, the same panel will be featured,” he continues, “but with a vertical view of our supply chain and the perspective of leading global inerts manufacturer Joel Saltzman CEO North America of Indorama Ventures; Spenser Vance, Director of Customer Experience at Albaugh, a global post patent chemical manufacturer; Casey Daniels, Vice President of Loveland Products, a national distributor; and Jeff Blair, CEO of Greenpoint, a major U.S. retailer. In this panel, we will hear their view on the next five to 10 years and how they’re going to need to change to meet that future.”

Today, there are over 1,000 pesticide labels requiring an adjuvant and more than 2,500 adjuvants from which to choose. “We know that choosing the right adjuvant can impact your performance of the product by up to 50%,” Kippley says.

This among today’s issues, such as sustainability, climate, smart technology, and the introduction of greener biological formulations, and a more emerging drone application technology makes the topic of adjuvants even more important.

2022’s conference also saw the launch of CPDA’s Adjuvant University. This year’s session will be moderated by Nutrien’s Adjuvant Manager, Eileen Bernard Edward, and will be covering three fundamental areas. The first topic will be the present and future of adjuvants, led by Johnnie Roberts, Director of Education, Adjuvant Chemistry, and Joe Gednaiske, Director of Education, Adjuvant Development, both of CPDA.

Rounding out the Adjuvant University, Connor Ferguson, Branded Technologies Data Manager with Wilbur-Ellis, will discuss spray mixture optimization. John Hemminghaus, Commercial Development Manager at Ethox Chemicals, will then moderate a session entitled, “The Future Trend of Application Technology,” which will highlight Timothy Anderson with BASF, who will discuss biological formulations.

This is a must-attend event for those who want to stay on the cutting edge of market intelligence, and technology development. An added benefit is that there will be ample opportunity for networking so attendees can reconnect with old friends while finding new ones.
