For the ag retailers that have done business with Wolf Trax, the company has evolved into a trusted partner for reaching out to grower-customers. “We were one of the first retailer’s to offer Wolf Trax products to growers eight years ago and we’ve had a very good relationship with them ever since,” said Michel Hardoy, a representative for L.A. Hearne Co., King City, CA.

Hardoy, along with almost 100 other ag retailers and guests, attended Wolf Trax’s recent Innovation Showcase in Elm Creek, MB, CAN, to see first-hand how the company’s established products perform in various field tests, along with a brief look at some of the company’s supporting equipment items. Wolf Trax also previewed several new fertilizer products currently in the company’s development and research pipeline.

“For the 2013 growing season, we added Magnesium DDP to our line of nutrition products,” said Jereleen Brydon, director of marketing for Wolf Trax. “Over the next 36 months, we will launch at least two other new innovations.”

An Experimental Phosphorous

One of these was 5400R, an experimental phosphorous-based DDP. A blend of phosphorous, zinc and manganese, 5400R is designed to improve a grower’s fertility options by serving as a replacement for the use of phosphorous (P2O5). It can be applied as a seed or fertilizer coating, said Mark Goodwin, director of research and development for Wolf Trax.

The company tested 5400R on various crops for its field studies, including wheat, soybean and corn. “In each case, 5400R has been shown to do a better job of delivering the right combination of nutrients to plants for early season growth compared with MAP alone,” said Goodwin.

The other new product Wolf Trax previewed at the Innovation Showcase was 5300R, an experimental zinc suited to foliar and liquid applications. A highly soluble dry powder product, 5300R also features the company’s LeafSorb Technology, which allows the nutrients to translocate throughout a plant.

“We tested 5300R on corn and witnessed some very positive results,” said Goodwin. “In most cases, the test plant’s uptake of zinc improved by approximately 225% compared with the control plant.”
