DuPont’s Prevathon Approved For Dry Beans

DuPont Prevathon insect control powered by Rynaxypyr has received EPA registration for foliar use on dry bean crops, including dried shelled peas and beans. Growers can now take advantage of the proven insect control Prevathon already provides for many other crops.

Prevathon was first registered in 2011 for use on cotton, corn, and pasture and hay crops, including alfalfa. Since then, in farm fields and research trials, Prevathon has demonstrated superior protection against a broad range of yield-robbing insects for other crops, gaining additional registrations for use on soybeans, sunflowers, wheat, sorghum and peanuts. In dry beans, Prevathon provides control against lepidopteran worms, including fall armyworm, beet armyworm, corn earworm and European corn borer, as well as leafminer larvae.

“Prevathon brings a much-needed insect control solution to the dry bean market and offers an alternate mode of action to support resistance management programs,” said James R. Hay, North America Business director, DuPont Crop Protection. “With recent registration for pulse crops, Prevathon will help even more growers benefit from bigger yields and improved crop quality,”

Hay added that a short, four-hour re-entry interval and an excellent worker protection standard profile will help boost farm productivity. “Prevathon offers the flexibility to coordinate other field activities soon after application and maintain field scouting schedules. That’s a big advantage to growers managing the intense production needs of a range of crops, including dry beans.”
In addition to flexibility, Prevathon provides many other benefits:

  • Provides a wider application window with ingestion, contact and ovi-larvicidal properties.
  • Stops insect feeding immediately and keeps working for 14 to 21 days,2 reducing the number of potential treatments.

DuPont received the 2013 Agrow Award for Best Crop Protection R&D Pipeline. Prevathon is just another example of DuPont’s exceptional R&D pipeline, which has produced a significant number of innovative, proprietary active ingredients and crop protection solutions over the past several years. These new insect control products, fungicides and herbicides are helping to sustain food production and farmer prosperity around the world.
