Purdue Conference Focuses on Improving Farm Profitability
January 8, 2019 The Purdue Top Farmer conference, a management program for farmers that features faculty and staff experts from Purdue’s Center for Commercial Agriculture, will take place on Jan. 11 at the Beck Agricultural Center, located at 4540 U.S. 52 West, West Lafayette. Pre-conference sessions will take place on Jan. 10.
“The program brings in farm management, farm policy, agricultural finance and marketing experts along with the nation’s best crop production specialists,” said James Mintert, director of Purdue University’s Center for Commercial Agriculture. “It’s an opportunity for farmers to stimulate their thinking about agriculture’s future and how they can position their farm to be successful in the years ahead.”
Two pre-conference sessions are focused on improving “Crop Marketing Skills” and “Preparing to Meet with Your Ag Lender.” The main conference includes sessions on ag outlook, the tariff battle with China, and using technology to improve profitability. The conference concludes with Eric Snodgrass, crop climatologist from the University of Illinois, discussing weather and climate impacts on crop production and what to look for in 2019.
Registration for the Conference (Jan. 11, only) is $150 or $50 for the pre-conference (Jan.10). For those wanting to attend both days, the center is offering a bundled discount of $175.
