Chuck Gates, Ohio CCA of the Year

Chuck Gates receives the Ohio Certified Crop Adviser of the Year Award from Cecelia Lokai-Minnich, Ohio CCA board chair.

Chuck Gates, of Tiffin, OH, has been named the 2015 Certified Crop Adviser of the Year by the Ohio Certified Crop Adviser Board and will receive $1,500 provided by DuPont Pioneer. Gates is a seedsman with Seed Consultants, Inc.

The award recognizes individuals who are highly motivated, deliver exceptional customer service for farmer clients in nutrient management, soil and water management, integrated pest management and crop production and have contributed substantially to the exchange of ideas and the transfer of agronomic knowledge within the agricultural industry in Ohio.

Gates has more than 25 years of crop advising experience. As a CCA, he provides nutrient management plans, scouting, seed recommendations and more. He promotes buffer strips through speaking engagements, in addition to steering nutrient and cover crop use and management.

“Chuck is genuinely interested in my success as a farmer,” said Eric Niemeyer, of Mad Max Farms, LLC., who nominated Gates for the award. “In addition, he promotes good stewardship and conservation and responsible use of tillage and chemicals.”

Gates is also involved in his community through Boy Scouts, Tiffin Columbian Athletic Boosters, Kids Derby and the Fall Disabled Hunt. He is also a member of the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition, Old Fort Lions Club and Izaak Walton League Conservation Club.
