Financing Boosts Regenerative Adoption: Return, LLC Partners With Growers Edge

According to Adam Brummond, CEO/Co-Founder of Return, LLC,  the Stewartville, MN-based company was started on a very simple premise – turn what once was considered waste into something valuable.

“We work at the intersection of regenerative agriculture and organics recycling, taking poultry litter and other organic by-products and transforming them into high-performing soil health products,” says Brummond. “Over the years, we’ve evolved from a regional compost and fertilizer operation into a company that supports farmers with scalable regenerative solutions — everything from bulk litter and compost programs to high-value, retail-ready soil health products. Our focus has always been on helping farmers close the loop — improving yield, soil resilience, and profitability while reducing reliance on synthetics.”

But while this aspect of Return’s business plan has performed as expected, says Brummond, there were other parts that needed some assistance. For example, he says, there was finances.

“We had growers asking us to be the bank and offer extended credit terms that matched their operations and seasonal cash flow,” says Brummond. “As a small business, that’s just not something we can sustainably do on our own — but we recognized input financing was the key to solving that challenge.”

To address this need, Return initiated an effort to find a partnership that could help in this area. Ultimately, this led to finding Growers Edge.

Return, LLC provides agricultural growing supplies, focusing on soil health, and has been in business since 2009, with a sustainable farm background.

“When we first connected with Growers Edge, we were looking for a better way to manage the financial side of our grower relationships — specifically around credit risk, financing, and helping more farmers access regenerative inputs without cash flow being a barrier,” he says. “Growers Edge stood out because its program offers zero recourse to us, competitive rates for growers, and a revolving credit facility — something truly unique in the ag financing space.”

Using Growers Edge

Once the decision to partner with Growers Edge was made, Return quickly integrated many of the company’s offerings into its day-to-day operations.

“First, we have a Return-branded web portal hosted by Growers Edge that makes the process simple and fast for growers,” says Brummond. “They can apply online and get an instant credit decision. On our side, we have secure access to a portfolio management system that lets us administer the program and submit draw requests on behalf of growers. We also updated our sales process and marketing collateral to fully integrate financing as an option in every grower conversation.

“For a company like ours — where product performance is closely tied to weather, timing, and yield — that financial stability makes a huge difference,” he continues. “It lets us focus more on growth, relationships, and helping growers adopt regenerative practices instead of managing credit risk manually.”

Looking ahead, says Brummond, Return is focused on scaling regenerative agriculture through data, financing, and collaboration. The company is actively working to build models that quantify soil return-on-investment, not just short-term yield, but long-term value creation, he says.

“Our partnership with Growers Edge is a key part of that vision,” says Brummond. “Input financing is one of the biggest levers to accelerate regenerative adoption — if we can make it easier for growers to say ‘yes’ to improving their soil, everybody wins. Ultimately, the future for Return is about connecting the dots between soil health, data, and economic value — and Growers Edge is helping us make that bridge real.”
