CropLife 100 Early Bird Special: Sprayer Manufacturer Service Rankings

Editor’s Note: Each year for the past 38 years, CropLife magazine has gathered huge amounts of data to compile its annual CropLife 100 report. The bulk of this information will be presented throughout the month of December to our readers. There are, however, several findings that for one reason or another don’t make the final analysis. So, going into the 2021 report, we’ve decided to present some of these data sets as separate stories presented in our weekly enewsletter. With the table now set, this week’s menu includes a generous portion of information on how manufacturers of self-propelled sprayers are perceived by CropLife 100 ag retailers when it comes to customer service.

Over the years, one of the major factors in determining what self-propelled sprayers an ag retailer decides to purchase ties back to how well the manufacturer of that equipment (and its dealer network) can service units when there are problems. For several years now, CropLife has tracked this question among manufacturers on the annual CropLife 100 form, asking respondents to tell us which company offers the best service in their opinions.

According to some historical data, John Deere/Hagie has ended up topping this ranking, with more than 50% of respondents saying the company provides the best service. AGCO and Case IH/Miller have typically finished second and third, respectively.

And in 2021, not much has changed on this front. According to the 2021 CropLife 100 survey, the nation’s top ag retailers still rank John Deere/Hagie as having the best service among manufacturers at 56%. This represented a slight 1% improvement over the company’s 55% figure for the 2020 calendar year.

As has been the case for many years, AGCO Corp. finished in second place for “best service” among CropLife 100 ag retailers – but not by much. According to the 2021 CropLife 100 survey, AGCO was rated as providing the best service to customers by 22% of respondents. This represented a 2% decline from 2020, when 24% said AGCO service was best.

In third place according to the 2021 CropLife 100 survey was Case IH/Miller at 19%. This represented a 2% improvement from the 17% of respondents who rated the company’s service as best in the 2020 survey.

As for the remaining 3% of respondents, they rated other manufacturers such as New Holland and RBR Enterprise as having the best service during the 2021 season.
