CHS Supports #FirstJob Compact
October 24, 2016 CHS joins the White House and many of the country’s largest employers in signing a new initiative centered on helping more of the nation’s youth find their first jobs.
The new initiative is called the First Job Recruiting and Hiring Compact. Last week at North Carolina A&T State University, President Obama announced the names of nearly 40 of the largest U.S. employers who have signed the #FirstJob Compact. That list includes CHS. ADM is the only other employer from the ag sector.
“Attracting young adults is critical to our talent pipeline,” says Adam Holton, senior vice President, Human Resources, CHS. “We currently have programs in place that support the Compact and we will explore areas to expand our presence, as well as share our best practices where appropriate.”
The First Job Compact is focused on those out of school, unemployed youth ages 16 to 24 whom the White House calls “opportunity youth.” Those who sign the First Job Compact commit to inclusive hiring practices and pledge to open up hiring, recruitment and advance pathways for these youth.
“The White House reached out to us about joining this program,” says David Cobb, Washington representative in the CHS Washington, DC, office. “We were honored by the request and saw it as a great opportunity to revisit and expand upon the things we were already doing to recruit young people.”
This initiative will allow CHS to build on the foundation it has already put in place with the next generation workforce. As CHS advances awareness of the career opportunities available within the agriculture and energy industries, it is helping to grow tomorrow’s leaders.
