Agrian Announces New California Feature

Agrian announced today that it has developed a feature within its recommendation writing program that will support the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) requirement to restrict the time of year products designated as non-fumigant high volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be applied.

Agrian users located within the San Joaquin Valley counties of San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and the Valley floor areas of Kern county and writing recommendations on alfalfa, almonds, citrus, cotton, grapes, pistachios, and walnuts will have access to this new feature. The feature will provide a series of warnings that will guide the user through the recommendation writing process and alert them if they intend to use a product that contains a non-fumigant high VOC active ingredient within the restriction period.

The high VOC active ingredients components are abamectin, chlorpyrifos, gibberellins and oxyfluorfen. High non-fumigant VOC products containing the aforementioned actives cannot be applied to the crops listed above between May 1st and October 31st. There are special exception scenarios that will allow non-fumigant high VOC applications to take place, however, those exceptions must be verified by the grower and a licensed PCA. According to DPR, the restricted application period goes into effect for a two-year cycle of 2015 and 2016.

“Government regulations and data reporting requirements are an increasingly heavy burden, especially for crop advisors, growers and applicators,” said Nishan Majarian, CEO and co- founder of Agrian. “We are committed to providing everyone in the agrifood supply chain with integrated solutions that meet the growing demand for data.”

“I appreciate the steps Agrian has taken to create this type of feature,” said James Mose, Independent Crop Advisor. “Though ultimately as a PCA I’m responsible, the reminders to ensure compliance are a great benefit to PCAs and growers.”

Crop Advisors with existing Agrian Advisor accounts may access this new feature beginning May 1, 2015. New users who would like to set up a free Agrian Advisor account may do so here.
