Give your customers neighbor-friendly weed control in cotton and soybeans

As planting Enlist® cotton and Enlist E3® soybeans has risen with Southern farmers, retailers can help their customers get neighbor-friendly weed control this season with Enlist One® herbicide.
The cornerstone of a program approach with the Enlist® weed control system, Enlist One herbicide gives growers confidence they can control weeds with applications that land and stay on target. Greater application flexibility also helps keep sprayers moving during a busy time of the season. That’s just the beginning of how Southern farmers can improve herbicide applications.
When talking with customers about Enlist One herbicide, remind them of these benefits to help them get the most from the Enlist weed control system:
1. Neighbor-friendly applications: With the inherent near-zero volatility of 2,4-D choline, Enlist One herbicide provides effective weed control and stays where it is sprayed when applied in accordance with label directions. It’s formulated with Colex-D® technology to reduce driftable fines — those particles that can move away from the target during application. With inherent low volatility and less physical drift, Enlist One does not require a volatility reduction agent or drift reduction agent in the tank.
2. Tank-mix compatibility: Your customers can make every trip across the field count with more than 1,700 qualified tank-mix partners, including residual herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and more. Growers can tank mix Enlist One with additional herbicide modes of action, including glufosinate, for effective weed control and to help with resistance management. With the option to add tank-mix partners to applications of Enlist herbicides, customers can potentially save trips across the field and increase weed control through postemergence residuals. In a season where farmers need to make every trip across the field count, Enlist One herbicide provides options to get more accomplished with every application.
3. Flexible applications: Enlist herbicides can be applied over Enlist® crops from burndown through postemergence. Customers can spray on their schedule — through R1 on Enlist E3 soybeans and up to first white bloom on Enlist cotton. There are no calendar cutoff dates or temperature restrictions, so growers can make decisions based on their farms’ needs and specific weed pressure.
4. Compatible with Southern crops: Peanuts, rice and soybeans without the Enlist® trait are all considered compatible crops with Enlist One herbicide. That means your customers can make applications of Enlist One herbicide even when these common Southern crops are downwind, giving more opportunities to make applications.
Southern farmers welcome benefits of Enlist One herbicide
Southern farmers who’ve adopted the Enlist weed control system frequently report improved weed control with greater peace of mind.
Arkansas producer Ramey Stiles has planted Enlist cotton for a decade, and that time has bolstered his confidence in the system, especially when it comes to neighbor-friendly control of glyphosate-resistant pigweed. Enlist One has provided excellent weed control and allowed him to make confident applications that stay on target.
“We get good weed control with Enlist One, and the fact that we can apply it without having to worry about off-target movement is important to me,” Stiles said. “There’s a peace of mind knowing that the product stays in the field and performs well when used according to label directions.”
Stiles said he often tank mixes Enlist One with glufosinate or glyphosate, depending on the weed species he needs to control. A tank-mix of Enlist One plus glufosinate is an especially good combination for hard-to-control or glyphosate-resistant broadleaf weeds. A walk through his fields after application confirms what he’s come to expect from Enlist One herbicide. He finds brown, twisted pigweed crisping up in the July heat.
“That’s what a farmer wants to see — those weeds are not coming back,” he said. “Enlist One does a good job for us.
“Excellent weed control helps you at harvest with fiber quality and yield. Harvest is more challenging if you have a lot of weeds in the field,” Stiles continued. “Plus, Enlist One is a good fit for cotton in the Delta because of other crops like peanuts and rice. There are a lot of advantages to using the Enlist system.”
In Stiles’ mind, the Enlist weed control system offers unique advantages that make it the right choice for Southern acres.
“The choice was clear to use the Enlist system because we were convinced that the crop safety was there, we could control our weeds, and we didn’t have to worry about Enlist One moving off target,” he said. “It was really kind of a no-brainer — it was a clear choice to use Enlist.”
6 tips for successful applications
Once your customers decide to apply Enlist One herbicide, share these best management practices to help them make successful applications:
1. Start with a clean sprayer and tank. Clean out your sprayer before using Enlist herbicides to avoid contamination from a prior application.
2. Choose the right nozzle. Use only a qualified nozzle and pressure combination listed for Enlist One herbicide to ensure optimum spray coverage.
3. Apply the appropriate spray volume and pressure. Use a spray volume of 10 to 15 gallons or more per acre for ground equipment. Apply with the appropriate spray pressure based on product label requirements and conditions to ensure optimum coverage.
4. Use the full spray rate. Apply Enlist One herbicide at 2 pints per acre when weeds are shorter than 6 inches and crops are within the appropriate growth stage window.
5. Check wind speed. Drift potential is lowest at wind speeds less than 10 mph. Target applications at wind speeds greater than 3 mph but less than 10 mph. Check your state regulations for additional restrictions on wind speed.
6. Avoid temperature inversions. Do not spray during a temperature inversion. Watch this video to better understand temperature inversions and how to ensure on-target application. Inversions are more common between dusk and dawn.
