For those in the agricultural world wanting to keep tabs on all the latest information in the market, one of the go-to sources since July 2019 has been the Farm4Profit podcast and its related videos. According to Tanner Winterhof, CEO and Co-Host, Farm4Profit is unique vs. other industry-related podcasts because of the way it presents its topics.

“The first part of our mission statement is to help farmers achieve a higher level of profitability and the second part is to do this in an entertaining fashion,” says Winterhof. “We don’t lecture. Our podcasts are like you are talking to someone in the industry at the corner store”

This approach ties back to the origins of the podcast, says Winterhof. Originally, Farm4Profit was started in 2014 as an annual in-person event. “That event kept growing year after year and our attendees were telling us they wanted more information than was being provided once a year,” he says. “So that’s why we started the podcast.”

According to Winterhof, this dual format approach for Farm4Profit turned out to be a godsend once 2020 rolled around and the COVID pandemic emerged.

“We ended up cancelling the in-person event that year, like a lot of other in-person events did,” he says. “We viewed that as someone telling us: ‘Maybe you should just stick to the podcast side of things.’ So that’s what we did.”

As part of its podcast structure, Farm4Profit records onsite at various agricultural events throughout the year. One of these in 2025 was the Tech Hub LIVE Conference, held in Des Moines, IA, in mid-July. Owned by Meister Media Worldwide, Tech Hub LIVE presents all the latest in ag technology to ag retailers and their grower-customers.

According to Winterhof, he found this event eye-opening, in more ways than one.

“My key takeaway from Tech Hub LIVE was that there are a lot of interested parties that want to advance technology in agriculture and are willing to back that desire financially,” he says. “Right now, there seems to be a huge emphasis on helping agriculture catch up to other industries, whether its through automation or tools/apps or reinventing established agricultural processes to save us time.”

However, he adds, current agricultural economics might stand in the way of this technology transformation.

“Profitability is the No. 1 concern for farmers today, with commodity prices at an all-time low and crop inputs at an all-time high,” says Winterhof. “And ag equipment has never been more expensive – from $1 million combines to $100,000 pick-up trucks and everything in-between. Most farmers are asking the same question when it comes to technology: ‘Can I afford newer technology today or do I keep looking at just buying basic equipment until things get better?’”

Given these market dynamics, Winterhof says that ag retailers could also benefit from listening to Farm4Profit podcasts.

“Being an ag retailer will be especially tough over the next 15 to 18 months,” he says. “Competition won’t just be about service — it will be about cost. Retailers who can add value beyond price by truly knowing their producers and listening to their concerns will stand out. That’s where Farm4Profit helps — giving retailers an entertaining way to understand what matters to their customers so they’re ready to provide solutions when it counts.”
