Video Series Showcases Corn, Soybean Growers
July 23, 2010 Four Midwestern corn and soybean growers will tell their crop management stories this year as part of the 2010 BASF Crop Protection Top Plot series. The high-yield growers will each appear in a sequence of videos throughout the 2010 growing season. Using both past experience and expectations of this year’s season, they will share advice, tools, and tips on how to get the most out of every acre.
While these growers have been leveraging the disease control and Plant Health power of Headline fungicide for many years, 2010 brought an opportunity to test out the new Kixor herbicide technology for fast burndown and residual control of tough broadleaf weeds. Watch as these growers take us through the season and talk about their plans for achieving high yield and quality crops.

David Hartz, Cavalier, ND. Hartz has seen yield increases of 50-100 percent using Headline on corn acres and consistently pushes the boundaries for yield in northern North Dakota. View Top Plot video below.

Gary Porter, Mercer, MO. Even on challenging land in the far northern part of Missouri, Porter consistently ranks high in the annual National Corn Grower Association (NCGA) National Corn Yield Contest.
Kip Cullers, Springfield, MO. Cullers is the current world record holder for the highest soybean yield at 155 bushels per acre and keeps breaking his own records.
David Roehm, Leesburg, OH. As winner of the 2009 Secure Optimal Yield (SOY) Challenge, sponsored by the American Soybean Association and BASF Crop Protection, Roehm’s side-by-side yield comparison proved that Scepter 70 DG herbicide and Headline fungicide can bump yield up to four bushels higher.
“Our 2010 Top Plot growers are facing similar challenges – unpredictable weather, crop management concerns, changing commodity prices – as other corn and soybean growers across the Midwest,” says Paul Rea, director, BASF U.S. crop business. “By providing a window into their management process we hope other growers can gain insight into tools and techniques that will help them get the most out of their acres.”
Viewers can expect to hear about planting techniques, tilling and seed decisions, the benefit of seed treatments, herbicide and fungicide recommendations, mid-season challenges, disease management, harvesting techniques, and yield results in the video series.
