Members of Wisconsin River Co-op and Farmers’ Co-op Supply and Shipping Association overwhelmingly approved a plan to merge the two cooperatives. Eighty-seven percent of Wisconsin River Co-op members who voted and 76% of Farmers’ Co-op members who voted approved the measure. Both cooperatives held special meetings to close the balloting and count votes on November 16.
“This successful merger vote is the result of many months of hard work and dedication put forth by the directors and employees of both cooperatives. We are very excited about the opportunities this merger will have to offer,” says Timothy Diemert, CEO of Wisconsin River Co-op, the No. 60 ranked retail outfit on the CropLife 100.
The cooperative will hold a contest among employees and members to name the newly merged cooperative. Details on the contest are available here. The current Wisconsin River Co-op CEO, Timothy Diemert, will manage the merged cooperative. Farmers’ Co-op general manager, Monte Wick, will serve as CFO and Vice-President of the Western Division.
“We are grateful for the support our members have given the board of directors and their recommendation to approve the plan of merger,” said Monte Wick, Farmers’ Co-op general manager. “We are confident that this merger will allow us to boost the service and efficiency of both cooperatives and keep up with our customer’s growing needs and expectations.”
With the plan approved by the members, the staff and boards at both cooperatives will now forge ahead on details to combine the two organizations. The merger will be effective on or before April 1, 2013.
