Wind Blowing Away Ethanol In Iowa

Wind power, Iowa

“Two of three Iowans say ethanol has been good for the state, although a majority believe wind power should be the state’s new priority, according to an Iowa poll,” says the Des Moines Register in Des Moines, IA.

“Even solar comes in ahead of ethanol,” the newspaper reports. “Asked which form of energy state government should encourage, 58 percent of Iowans said wind, 19 percent said solar, and 16 percent said ethanol.

“Of the three, ethanol is the most mature industry, with 34 ethanol plants operating in Iowa. By contrast, five plants — in Alta, Cedar Rapids, Fort Madison, Newton, and West Branch — make blades or turbines for wind generators, and there’s only one major solar manufacturer, Ames-based PowerFilm Inc.,” reports the Register.
