WHAT THEY NEEDED

After more than 110 years in business, Columbia, MO-based MFA Inc. decided to build a new multipurpose facility in Ravenwood, MO. Many of the MFA Agronomy Center sites were developed in the 1970s and needed modernizing. Instead of updating multiple sites, the leadership team at MFA decided to build a new, centralized facility, which enables the coop to serve its Maryville, Guilford, Conception Junction, Sheridan, and Grant City sites faster and more efficiently. The new Ravenwood-based Four Rivers Agronomy Center includes a dry fertilizer plant and a declining weight blending system. MFA reached out to Doyle Equipment Manufacturing to build and oversee the project.

WHAT WE DESIGNED

The new facility has a storage capacity to hold 6,500 tons of dry fertilizer. Being an automated system, operators handle the loading and unloading of fertilizer remotely and ensure storage is handled correctly. A new 200-TPH declining weight blending system ensures the accuracy of fertilizer blends, saving the company (and its customers) time and money while increasing efficiency. For example, the new facility cut the fertilizer receiving and discharging process from 45 to eight minutes. To load a semi-trailer with fertilizer, the desired amount of mixture is entered into the system, which then mixes the product and deposits it into the trailer automatically.
