John Deere R4060 Self-Propelled Sprayer Wins 2019 MAGIE ShowStopper Award

For more than one dozen years now, visitors to the annual Midwest AG Industries Exposition (MAGIE) in Bloomington, IL, have cast their votes for the one product at each year’s show that literally “stopped them in their tracks.” Based upon these cast ballots, this “best in show” product has been awarded a trophy — the ShowStopper Award, presented by show sponsor the Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association (IFCA) in partnership with CropLife IRON magazine.

Since the award’s inception, ShowStopper winners have tended to typically fall into the “Big IRON” category of products, with self-propelled sprayers and fertilizer spreaders traditionally taking the prize. The 2019 ShowStopper Award winner was no exception to this pattern, with the oversized R4060 sprayer from John Deere winning the stop sign-shaped trophy.

“This is an honor, and I would like to thank IFCA, CropLife IRON, and all the attendees here at the MAGIE show that voted for the R4060,” said Dave Mulder, Product Marketing Manager for John Deere, accepting the trophy. “We think we have added a really special product to our line-up with the R4060 introduction, and it’s nice to find out the audience here agrees.”

Some Really Big Options

Among the “big” features of the R4060 is one of the industry’s largest product solution tanks, capable of holding 1,600 gallons. The sprayer at the MAGIE show was also equipped with a 132-foot boom constructed of carbon fiber and stainless steel.

The R4060 is also equipped with John Deere’s new CommandDrive powertrain system. According to Mulder, CommandDrive is a new hydrostatic all-wheel-drive powertrain that is designed to transfer power to the ground while offering improved traction, fuel efficiency, and a quieter ride for the operator. “This new CommandDrive can help users cover more acres quicker and efficiently,” he said.
