GROWMARK and Midwest Food Bank Partner to Deliver Food Relief to Ukraine
This fall, farmers can help provide relief for Ukraine just by doing what they do best – growing corn and soybeans.
The donation program, developed in conjunction with Midwest Food Bank, allows farmers to make in-kind donations of grain at participating GROWMARK member cooperative grain elevators, with the proceeds directly benefitting Ukraine food relief efforts.
“Midwest Food Bank has been placed in a unique position to help the people of Ukraine,” said Jada Hoerr, Chief Resource Officer of Midwest Food Bank. “We are grateful for the generosity of the GROWMARK members and patrons. Together, we have significant impact on a population in need.”
Midwest Food Bank is partnered with humanitarian groups in Ukraine to distribute Tender Mercies, a shelf-stable, high-protein food source. Every dollar provided to the Tender Mercies program creates four meals – so a bushel of corn could provide more than 20 meals, and a bushel of soybeans more than 50.
To donate, farmers simply need to contact their local participating elevator and request grain to be sold on behalf of Midwest Food Bank. The grain will be sold immediately with the payment sent directly to Midwest Food Bank. In-kind grain donations can be made beginning now through January 31, 2023.
