A fire in a storage warehouse at Agrium’s Hartsville, SC, NPK Rainbow Fertilizer Operation occurred during the evening of February 14. Fortunately, all employees on site were accounted for and there were no injuries. The fire affected the storage facility which housed approximately 17,000 tonnes of dry finished product and raw materials.
According to Agrium’s Web site, the company is working with the South Carolina State Department of Health and Environmental Quality (DHEQ) to monitor any impacts to air and water of the surrounding area. Agrium has also brought in environmental consultants to support its efforts.
In addition, customer needs will be met through Agrium’s Americus, GA, and Florence, AL, facilities. The facility and product were insured and as a result there is expected to be no material financial impact on Agrium.
