Bayer To Launch PRE Premix

Bayer CropScience’s pipeline includes a preemergence premix herbicide that could be marketed as soon as 2009.

The herbicide is a combination of the active ingredients thiencarbazone-methyl and isoxaflutole. Thiencarbazone-methyl is a new sulfonyl-amino-carboynl-triazolinone.

The two active ingredients complement each other and will be combined with the new proprietary herbicide safener cyprosulfamide to provide additional crop safety. This new premix can be applied from prior to planting through the second leaf-collar stage of corn.

"Field studies have proven the excellent performance of thiencarbazone in combination with isoxaflutole against key monocut and dicot weed species in corn," says Dr. Brent Philbrook, researcher at Bayer CropScience.

Market introduction is expected in the U.S. in 2009 pending regulatory approval.

"Bayer CropScience is well-positioned in herbicides," adds Christophe Dumont, head of the Strategic Business Entity Herbicides at Bayer CropScience. "We have four new herbicidal substances in late-stage development, and they are scheduled for market introduction between 2008 and 2012."

Two other recent herbicide active ingredients, tembotrione and pyrasulfotole, are scheduled for launch in the U.S. in the near future.
