Western Lake Erie Basin Receives $19 Million For Water Quality

Water Watch LogoU.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced more than $19 million in new federal funds to improve water quality in Western Lake Erie Basin today, reports Tim Miller with WTOL in Toledo.

The funding is part of USDA’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) which Brown helped establish in the 2014 Farm Bill. Ohio conservation projects will be awarded more than $27 million under this program.

“These Federal resources will help reduce harmful algal blooms and ensure the safety of Ohio’s drinking water and the strength of our economy,” Brown said. “But these federal funds are just the beginning – we need to utilize every available resource and innovation to reduce runoff, preserve the local environment, and protect our water supply.”
