WHAT THEY NEEDED

United Prairie needed to increase its blending capacity and speed. The company chose the Ranco Continuous Blend System. The 50-ton storage capacity per tank allows the loader-operator time to keep tanks full while the blender is continually putting out 200 TPH in blended product. Two 30-ton overhead NTEP approved weigh hoppers provide the ability to load and blend simultaneously, while eliminating the need for a truck scale.

The Ranco Continuous Blend System providing continuous blending ability allowed United Prairie to increase its output from one to two trucks per hour using a batch mixer to six to eight trucks per hour.

Ranco’s MESH/DCS control system was seamlessly integrated into United Prairie’s existing Kahler automation, providing ease of operation. With the help of Ranco’s Engineering and Design Team, the customer was able to place one of the load-out weigh hoppers within an existing concrete structure. This allowed United Prairie to avoid the expense of removing and demo of existing infrastructure.

WHAT WE DESIGNED

“United Prairie is proud and excited to have CropLife 100 showcase our new fertilizer loading system at our Crescent City facility. The upgrade to a Ranco system has more than doubled our outbound loading speed at Crescent City. The new system has made it so multiple locations and growers can now effectively and efficiently pull out of that facility, taking some of the workload off our Tolono, IL, location’s fertilizer building. The growth in efficiency has allowed us to expand our business and service to our growers in our northern and northeastern territories as well. Our ability to warehouse fertilizer has also expanded with the addition of this new system. We went from an average of loading 50 tons per hour with our older system to now being able to load 200 tons per hour. This increase in loading capacity and speed has helped to decrease the amount of time our growers and company trucks are waiting to be loaded at Crescent City. Another major change is an increase in our ability to mix macro and micronutrients, which is a huge help with our increased sales of MycroSync Pro. United Prairie’s dedication to our growers and the success of their operation was the driving force behind this project. We are proud to better serve the agriculture communities of Illinois and parts of Indiana with our new Ranco system at Crescent City.” – CURT MILLER, CEO, UNITED PRAIRIE
