Tenders: Tough Hauling

As the summer shows roll around again, manufacturers are rolling out their best equipment for applicators to try out. Tenders reduce applicators’ downtime by bringing fertilizer out to the fields to reload the spreaders, like refueling a plane in mid-air.

Speed is paramount when trying to fit application into a narrow window. A fast turnaround time is important, which is why the Tyler MT24 from Ag Systems offers capacities from 10 tons to 24 tons for any size application, with a discharge rate of 3,500 pounds or more per minute. Discharge heights of augers easily reach over the tallest flotation applicators, says the company, which means less shoveling. Three separate 409 stainless steel hoppers with six individual control gates keep product separate to avoid contamination. The unit also utilizes one-piece body construction, using 409 stainless steel for added durability.

Also designed to keep applicators in the field applying fertilizer and crop protection products instead of hauling product on the road or returning to the plant to reload, the Precision Tank & Equipment nurse unit offers a choice in pump drive and size. The plumbing can be mild steel or stainless steel, in a range of sizes. The unit can be equipped with various options, including a choice of pump drives and sizes and a mild steel or stainless steel tank skid. It has payload capacities of up to 3,500 gallons and can be mounted on either a wagon or a chassis, with a single or multiple compartment tank.

Built Tough

Tenders have to be built to withstand travel over rough roads and through fields and ditches. Simonsen Industries offers its BFT Series, all models of which are available in either side delivery or top auger models. Stainless steel components, maximum struts and bracing, and a large hydraulic oil reservoir make for a tough tender. Positioning the motor at the discharge end of the augur keeps it out of the dirt and fertilizer. The BFT Series can be configured with two to four hoppers with 17.25-ton to 27.3-ton capacities and unloading capabilities of 3,500 pounds to 4,000 pounds per minute.

The KBH Corp.’s ST350 Bulk Seed Tender with cleated belt will unveil its new hydraulic height adjustment feature at this year’s summer shows. The height adjustable unload conveyor has variable speeds for elevations of different seeds or grains at higher or lower belt speeds with minimal rollback.

KBH’s 25 Ton Dry Fertilizer Tender Trailer will also show up this summer with several new upgrades, including a more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing spool roll tarp by Agri-Cover, and hydraulic clean-out doors. Its unpainted 304 stainless steel 14 gauge hoppers hold 3 or 4 tons more than other 30-foot trailers, according to the company. The 70,000-pound capacity trailer has ABS anti-lock brakes and easy maneuverability, and is available in both rear discharge and side discharge models.

Side Shooters

Discharging material alongside a spreader, often at adjustable heights, is possible with side discharge dry tenders such as Adams Ferilizer Equipment’s site-specific tenders. Adams is adding a new tender to its trailer line with the SA-1200 Super Tender, shown at the top of p.28 mounted on an optional 53-foot drop beam chassis with three-axle undercarriage. Standard features include 60-hp Deutz diesel engine, three stage hydraulic pump system, hydraulic operated feed doors, side discharge adjustable auger, 304 stainless steel hopper, roll over tarp, and many other industry leading features, says the company.

Willmar tenders offer serious material-handling solutions in side-shooter and rear-discharge configurations, says AGCO. Willmar 16- and 24-ton side-shooting tenders can be either truck- or trailer-mounted and can move up to 2 tons of material a minute. The Willmar truck-mounted 10-ton and 1600 rear-discharge tenders have two large-capacity hoppers that feed into one auger and can load any applicator at up to 2 tons per minute.

Dempster Industries’ 16-Ton Side Discharge Tender reachers 18 feet to allow greater discharge height capability for equipment clearance and improved operator view of the single-unit, 10-inch unloading auger.

A full-length, flip-down driver side catwalk provides easy access to material loaded into the two-compartment (four optional) 600-cubic foot hopper (heaped). Made of 12-gauge 409 stainless steel, the hopper features easy-flow hopper clean-out 40-degree side walls. The unit comes standard with stainless steel roll-top tarp.

Loads Of Options

Ray-Man tenders are versatile, says the company, letting users load multi-bin applicators with speed, safety, and efficiency. Custom built to fit customer needs, the company offers three different discharge styles, two grades of stainless steel, stainless steel top catwalks, and manual or electric roll tarp options. The semi-trailers can be powered by a wet kit on user trucks or a self-contained power unit on the trailers.

Truck mount boxes are custom built from 12 feet to 24 feet, with multiple compartments. The full-length hopper sub-frame keeps the cones at their full 40-degree angle to ensure maximum cleanout and to keep the operator safely on the ground.

Semi-trailers are built from 30 feet to 42 feet with up to seven individual hopper bins. An exclusive integral trailer utilizes the hopper sub-frame with the main frame rails with tubular “X” braces to achieve a superior strength to weight ratio.

Doyle Manufacturing Co. will be showing its 24-Ton Tender, built using heavy 12-gauge 304 stainless steel. The unit features 40-degree sloped sides and can hold up to 56,355 pounds of material. Other features include stainless steel gate slides, a rear-mounted ladder, and three compartments. Options include stainless flighting and a Shur-Loc roll tarp.
