Spreaders: New Features Are Widespread

Available in a variety of sizes to meet different needs, spreaders that can handle many varieties of dry fertilizers, lime, micronutrients, and granular herbicides will be on display alongside those that focus on spreading various liquids for farm crops. Whether designed for small-scale operations or massive acreage requiring large capacities, this year’s spreaders offer something for everyone.

Single Compartments

Single compartment spreaders offer one large compartment for a single fertilizer or other dry application, like AGCO Corp.’s Willmar S-600. The S600, with 192 cu. ft. struck capacity/210 cu. ft. heaped capacity, offers either a 6- or 8-ton capacity in both dual and single spinner configurations. It’s also available in narrow or wide track dual and single spinner versions, and employs a dependable ground drive, two-speed conveyor system.

The 2-Ton Clipper 70 from Dempster Industries LLC, a pull-type spreader, is being reintroduced after a six-year hiatus. Now available with three choices of spinner drives, three choices of tires, and a gearbox-driven spinner, the Clipper 70 is designed for small fertilizer applications. For larger spreading needs, the Dempster 200, 200 adjustable trac, and 250 are also available.

The GVM Computer Spread spinner design will cover 50% to 100% more acres per day, says the company. With a 230 cu. ft. bin capacity and 45- to 98-foot broadcast width, the 8.0T Transpread Computer Spread can cover a lot of ground. It is capable of spreading fertilizer, lime, gypsum, and most fowl manures. It is new this year with Raven or Ag Leader CAN controllers.

Simonsen Industries offers the 1752SHC, a high clearance spreader designed for flexibility and ruggedness. It has 40 inches of distributor fan ground clearance, adjustable tread width from 72 inches to 120 inches, and stainless steel hopper, floor, rails, splash apron, mesh chain, slide assembly, gear box shafts, roller chain, and fan gearbox bracket.

Multiple Compartments

Multiple bin spreaders can be used for dry or liquid materials, or for loading with several different materials at once, such as fertilizer, micronutrients, and granular herbicides, thereby saving gas and getting more acres between fills.

The 4520 Flex-Air Applicator from Case IH, with 100 mph average deflector air speed, can carry one, two, or three bins for capacities ranging from 287 cu. ft for a single bin to 346 cu. ft. for a double or triple bin, to 500 gallons liquid. The 4520 FLX series applies product in an accurate, uniform pattern, regardless of size, shape, or weight. Patented “Field Leveler” independent suspension booms mounted over the chassis’ center of gravity form a stable spreading platform even at higher speeds, while co-ap bins and the liquid system are externally mounted to maintain full capacity of the main bin. The series also comes equipped with the company’s surveyor cab.

John Deere’s 4930 has a liquid capacity of up to 1,200 gallons. This variable-rate broadcaster comes with a single compartment; with the multapplier insert it has two compartments. It can also be ordered with a 300 cu. ft. dry spinner box for three-season capacity. The 4930 is fitted with an L3030G4 300 cu. ft. New Leader spin spreader, and has hydrostatic full-time 4WD. Boom widths to 120 feet are made for large-scale operations.

Featuring a Rawson 6:1 reduction dual-pinion spur gear drive with two hydraulic Charlyn motors, the GVM 9.5 Ton Double Duty Fusion Ready body, mounted on the 9275 Prowler, is powerful, with 24-inch computer controlled spinners providing a broadcast width of 90 to 105 feet. The 305 cu. ft. single bin has a dual hopper removable insert and microbin for compartmentalizing product. The Double Duty is precise and efficient, says GVM, with an accuracy rate of up to 3% with the controller and a spread pattern with less than a 15% co-efficient variation.

The Miller Atlas off-road floater chassis with New Leader spreader boxes from Miller-St. Nazianz can handle a 1,600-, 1,800-, or 2,000-gallon liquid system, or a 9- to 12-ton dry spinner box. With up to four compartments, this 304 stainless steel or 409 stainless steel spreader can handle the most rigorous field conditions, says the company. It has a 60- to 105-foot broadcast width powered by a variable-rate broadcaster.

The Agforce spreader by FORCE Unlimited maximizes the definition of versatility, says the company. The Duo-Force, Tri-Force, and Quad-Force can be added to the Agforce at any time, allowing one to four products to be accurately spread at the same time. These products complement the rest of FORCE Unltd.’s “Force Field” — including the Agforce Ltd., designed to mount on an AgChem 1274C or John Deere 4920/4930 sprayer chassis, the Pro-Force Trailer floater or row crop unit, and the Pro-Force multi-purpose spreader. Select from a 24- or 30-inch spinner assembly on Pro-Force units.
