21 Spray Nozzles and Tips for Custom Application Work in 2021
When it comes to managing spray drift on a daily basis, custom applicators have a number of things to consider before heading out to the field. What is the current wind speed? What is the boom height? What is the distance from susceptible vegetative? But perhaps one of the most important aspects applicators should keep in mind is the fact that droplet size is directly correlated to spray efficacy, especially when it relates to herbicides such as dicamba. Choosing the right nozzles can help you apply the right droplet size.

JOHN DEERE LOW-DRIFT MAX (LDM)
John Deere
The John Deere Low-Drift Max (LDM) spray nozzles a re designed for the John Deere Exact Apply Nozzle Control system. The LDM nozzles pair well with pulse-width modulation and conventional spraying alike for applications of systemic herbicides. Providing extra coarse-, very coarse-, and coarse-sized droplets provides significant drift reduction when needed. A 120-degree spray angle combined with a thicker spray pattern ensures targets remain enveloped in spray pattern longer to increase droplet deposition. Available in sizes 03- to 10 to provide speed, pressure range, and application volume flexibility. -

ACCUPULSE TWINJET
TeeJet Technologies
This non-air-induction, twin flat spray tip produces UC (ultra-coarse) and XC (extremely coarse) droplets for maximum drift control. The AE50 award winning, and patent-pending design, features unique recirculating ducts and concave exit orifice geometry to produce large, low velocity droplets. This spray tip is designed specifically for use on sprayers equipped with PWM (pulse width modulation) spray tip control. The AccuPulse tip can be used on sprayers with traditional control systems as well. It is ideal for burn down and soil applied applications, as well as post-emerge systemic herbicides that require maximum drift control. It is currently offered in eight capacities from -015 to -08. -

TTI TWINJET (TTI60) SPRAY TIP
TeeJet Technologies
This air-induction, twin-flat spray tip went into production at the end of 2016. It has some strong similarities to the TTI tip in terms of the ultra-coarse (UC) and extremely coarse (XC) droplets produced. It produces even fewer driftable fines — less than 1.5% is typical — and offers exceptionally good drift control. The twin pattern offers the advantage of improved coverage and canopy penetration for post-emerge applications. A combined tip/cap design allows for faster, easier installation. This tip is approved for select new generation dicamba products. -

HAWKEYE 2
Raven Industries
The most precise nozzle control system, Hawkeye 2 ensures accurate droplet coverage up to 2.5 times more accurate out of the tip than comparable systems. It provides consistency across the boom, which ensures precise droplet coverage, optimizing input costs. And Raven’s legacy of performance and support means less downtime and more acres covered in a day. The next generation nozzle control valve (NCV) builds upon the previous system: Individual nozzle control reduces skips and overlaps; consistent droplet rate and size reduces drift and increases application quality; and turn compensation minimizes over and under application, achieving the ideal application rate across the boom. -

ULTRA LO-DRIFT MAX (ULDM) SPRAY NOZZLE
Pentair-Hypro
The Ultra Lo-Drift Max (ULDM) spray nozzle from Pentair Hypro was developed specifically for dicamba and 2,4-D applications. Achieving up to 95% drift reduction, the ULDM is one of the highest rated drift reduction nozzles on the market. A 130-degree wide spray angle ensures coverage is not compromised when spraying at low boom heights mandated by auxin herbicide labels. Providing consistent droplet sizing across its pressure range allows the applicator to choose from a wide range of pressures while maintaining auxin herbicide label compliance. -

PENTAIR HYPRO 3D
Pentair-Hypro
The 3D nozzles were designed to provide superior coverage of crop canopies and soil surfaces. Field trial testing conducted by Syngenta has shown the 3D nozzles to provide enhanced fungicide and pre-emergent herbicide performance. Utilizing a 100° spray angle allows the 3D to produce greater droplet velocity than comparable nozzles, the company says. This increase in velocity paired with an inclined spray pattern provides superior canopy penetration and spray coverage. The tighter spray angle may also provide up to 50% drift reduction compared to a standard flat fan nozzle. -

COMBO-RATE DOUBLE-DOWN NOZZLES
Wilger Products
The Double-Down outlet split outlet allows for already owned spray tips to be mixed in pairs to apply higher volume applications more effectively. Provided both nozzles provide sufficient drift reduction capabilities, they can be used at the same time (with PWM or with auto-rate control) to spray out of both outlets at the same time. Simply adding the respective volumes of the two nozzles will provide a new total volume applied. Extremely useful for fungicide or high-volume herbicide applications.
