As 2014 draws to a close, several media companies are busy publishing their “best of” lists for the year. Among the honorees are movies, restaurants and people.

Here at CropLife magazine, we tend to get in on this activity to a degree by announcing the winner of our CropLife IRON Product of the Year award. For those who might be unfamiliar with honor, CropLife IRON readers annually select five products introduced during the current calendar year that they considered “the best of the best.” Then, for one month during the fall, readers vote on their favorite among these five to determine which product was the “year’s best.”

In 2014, this product turned out to be the 2014 STS Series self-propelled sprayer from Hagie Manufacturing. This product was selected as the best of the year by almost 64% of the CropLife IRON readers who voted out of a total of just under 2,000 votes cast.

As editor, it was my great honor to present the 2014 CropLife IRON Product of the Year trophy in-person to Amber Kohlhaas, communications manager for Hagie, at the recent American Seed Trade Association meeting. “I’m so excited that CropLife IRON readers choose the 2014 STS sprayer as the year’s best product,” said Kohlhaas, accepting the trophy. “On behalf of everyone at Hagie, thank you!”

Among the many features of the 2014 Hagie STS model are a new drive system designed with optimal torque management, All Wheel Traction Control and a more spacious cab. The unit includes the first cab in the industry to offer a decal pedal, droplet size monitor, as well as a programmable drive system capable of measuring field efficiency. The 2014 Hagie STS can also be equipped with additional safety features including Bluetooth and a back-up camera.

So congratulations, Hagie, from all of us at CropLife and in the ag retail industry! Well done!
