The agriculture industry’s impact on the economies of both North and South Dakota is more vital than ever before. According to the USDA NASS 2018 state reports, North Dakota had more than 26,000 farming operations, while South Dakota was home to close to 30,000 farms. Those farms combined operated more than 82 million acres across the region (ND at 39 million, SD at 43 million) in 2018.
