Crop growers now have an option for supplying early and late season sulfur in one application with SULFURMAX from Beneficial Reuse Management, makers of GYPSOIL Blendable. SULFURMAX is manufactured at the company’s plant in Winona, MN, and is available through fertilizer retailers across the Midwest.
SULFURMAX contains a combination of high-quality, fast-acting sulfate sulfur found in gypsum and slower-acting elemental sulfur for sustained feeding of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and a variety of other crops. SULFURMAX is a high-quality pelleted fertilizer product that can be easily blended with other fertilizers.
From the retailer’s perspective, SULFURMAX doesn’t cause possible handling challenges typically associated with elemental sulfur. It provides a safe and labor-efficient alternative to handling elemental sulfur. Moreover, SULFURMAX provides innovative retailers with an opportunity to differentiate from competitors with a brand-new solution that provides both agronomic and economic advantages for their customers.
SULFURMAX is considered an excellent replacement for other sulfur options such as ammonium sulfate (AMS) or elemental sulfur alone.
“Crops are especially in need of sulfur in the spring during early plant growth and again later in the season during rapid plant growth, fruiting and seed production.” said Ron Chamberlain, agronomist and spokesperson for Beneficial Reuse Management. “The roughly equal amount of sulfur supplied by sulfate and elemental sulfur sources in SULFURMAX is the ideal blend for early and late use sulfur.
“Whether it’s applied in the fall or in the spring, SULFURMAX is designed to provide season-long sulfur,” noted Chamberlain. “Using SULFURMAX may eliminate the need for a pre-plant pass of fertilizer, especially for growers that prefer to apply nitrogen in-season.”
The economics of using SULFURMAX compare favorably with other sulfur options and it does not acidify soils like ammonium-based fertilizers such as AMS. “Even in soils that typically are alkaline, farmers may be seeing pH levels driven downward due to the use of AMS,” said Chamberlain. “High acidity can disrupt soil microbe activity, the uptake of certain micronutrients and cause poor plant growth.”
SULFURMAX is 30% sulfur and supplies 47% of its sulfur in the early part of the growing season and 53% during the later timeframe.
