2026 Q2 AgTech Venture Capital Investment and Exit Round Up

Smart Tech Image

Last quarter there were 158 AgTech startups that raised a total of $2B in venture capital. Dollars invested was up 6% from the previous quarter, while the deal volume slipped by 3%. Over 25% of the total money raised in Q2 was in one deal, ICEYE, a Finnish radar-satellite constellation operator that has agricultural products, but is not limited to the ag sector.

This activity underscores a sustained period of stability in the AgTech investment sector. Over the last 14 quarters — dating back to Q1 2023 — AgTech funding has remained steady, averaging roughly $1.5 billion across 182 deals per quarter. This consistency marks a distinct normalization of the market, standing in stark contrast to the volatility observed during the 2021–2022 investment cycles.

AgTech in Venture Capital Context

To put these numbers into perspective, it is helpful to look at the broader venture capital environment. According to the CB Insights State of Venture Q2’26, $212.9 billion in global venture capital was deployed last quarter across an estimated 7,086 deals.

The first half of 2026 has shattered the all-time record for global venture investment. During the absolute height of the last venture bull market of 2021, the previous record for a half-year period peaked at around $375 billion. H1 2026 beat that by over $135 billion.

However, in the first six months of the year, mega-rounds (deals of $100 million or more) accounted for over 81% of the total capital deployed. That means roughly $413 billion went to a tiny sliver of late-stage deals, and 15,000 startups had to split just under 20% of the capital (roughly $97 billion). Early-stage software, SaaS, biotech, and fintech startups have faced a decade-low check-writing environment and significantly longer fundraising cycles.

AgTech’s relative stability for the last 14 quarters actually stands positively against the backdrop of falling investment totals in all sectors not considered pure AI.

The Exit Environment

There were 15 AgTech exits last quarter, all through M&A. When combined with the 10 exits recorded for Q1 (which includes two late-reported deals announced after our previous publication), the total for the first half of 2026 is 25.

The largest number of annual AgTech exits in the last decade have been 42 in 2024, 46 in 2021, and 57 in 2025. The first six months of this year suggest a strong annual performance for exits.
