Simple, To The Point

CenterLine 220

For a product that does lightbar guidance and simply that, Richard Gould, product manager of Spraying Systems Co., suggests the CenterLine 220. “The primary design goal was to make something that’s very simple to use,” Gould says.

The setup — just requiring plug in and swath width entering — gets the operator up and running quickly. The CenterLine 220 is designed for portability, too. “It has a suction cup to stick onto a window and easily mount, getting its power from a cigarette lighter,” Gould says. “The antenna, which needs to be placed outside, is magnetic and about the size of a matchbook.”

Featuring a high-quality Internal GPS engine, the CenterLine 220 provides RADAR-like speed signal for use with other controls and monitors. “There’s a big trend toward using GPS as your speed system,” Gould says. “And what we’ve built into the CenterLine 220 is a speed signal that can be used with an external device so it doubles as a GPS speed sensor.”

Adaptable for any field operation with straight-line (parallel) and curved AB modes of operation, another feature includes a large display for complete guidance information or an overhead map view.

“It has a graphical display so it can show a bird’s eye view of you, the operator, in the vehicle relative to the line you’d like to be driving,” Gould says. “So if you’re going off at an angle you’ll see yourself driving away from the line, and this becomes really helpful for turning yourself around at ends of rows and trying to find the next path.”

Getting To The Point

Gould also emphasizes the return to point feature.

“There’s a button on [the CenterLine 220] so that wherever you press it you’re able to later navigate back to that point,” he says. “That’s a popular feature because say you’re spreading fertilizer in a field and you run out halfway through, you can mark that point, take the machine back and fill it up, and then navigate right back to that exact point and pick up where you left off.”

Simplicity is the key to satisfaction for some, he continues.

“We found the simplicity to be a successful combination,” he says. “There are a lot of people, I think, who are intimidated by some of the more complex products in the market, with ours included in that mix, when all they really want to do is guidance. If that’s all you want to do, the CenterLine 220 is a perfect fit.”
