10 Must-Have Agriculture Apps That Will Make You More Efficient In 2016

I guess this mobile app frenzy isn’t a short-lived fad after all.

Consider in 2010 there was a “meager” 300,000 mobile apps in the Apple App Store, according to Statista Inc. That number mushroomed to 1.5 million apps in 2015 — a whopping 400% increase in just five years.

And the incredible volume of mobile apps has poured over into agriculture. With the number of farming apps available in leading app stores growing exponentially, it’s become next to impossible to successfully wade through the latest options that are helping make work more productive for ag professionals.

AgDNA (update). AgDNA launched a new campaign with AgFunder to deliver all new mobile automated precision farming services to farmers and crop producers worldwide. The new platform processes machine-generated data — such as seeding records, fertility applications, weather patterns, soil quality, and health yield — and provides subscribers with real-time, geo-spatially accurate information about the productivity of every acre on every field. No data entry required. Growers can then benchmark progress, view “seed prescriptions,” assess equipment performance, and determine what crops will best thrive under current conditions. Agren Soil Calculator (update). This app allows service providers to plug in various crop rotations, tillage systems, and conservation practices and view the resulting erosion predictions for up to three scenarios. The app’s enhanced reporting helps growers and advisers better understand the impact of management on soil health and address specific problem sites. Efforts can be targeted to apply conservation practices in the right place, at the right time, and at the right scale to achieve environmental and economic benefits. Color-coded maps, similar to a GIS yield map, pinpoint areas of high erosion. (Web-based)
