U.S. Soybean Acres At Record High

According to USDA’s June 30 Planted Acreage report, soybean acres are up 2 percent from last year, reports Delta Farm Press. Soybean planted area for 2009 is estimated at a record high 77.5 million acres. At 76.5 million acres, harvested area is up 3 percent from 2008 and will be the largest on record, if realized.

Compared with last year, planted acreage increased by 200,000 acres or more in Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and South Dakota states. The largest decrease is in Nebraska, down 400,000 acres from 2008, as many growers switched to corn this year. Record high planted acreage is estimated in Kansas, New York, North Dakota, and Pennsylvania.
