May 6, 2008 A well-known insecticide is upgraded, a cereal fungicide gets approval after 11 years as Section 18, and a spray oil adds organic crops to its portfolio.
EPA has approved Warrior II with Zeon Technology from Syngenta Crop Protection and
- Warrior II with Zeon Technology is available for broad-spectrum insect control in more than 23 crop groups, including corn, soybeans, cotton, alfalfa, cereal crops, potatoes, rice, and vegetables. It is a more concentrated formulation of Warrior with Zeon Technology and will provide storage, handling, and container disposal advantages. Warrior II contains 2.08 pounds of active ingredient per gallon — twice the concentration of Warrior, which it will replace in most markets across the U.S.
"This ease of handling will provide significant advantages to our customers," says Jeff Cecil, insecticide brand manager for Syngenta. "But equally important, Warrior II with Zeon Technology will provide the same proven pest knockdown and long-lasting residual control as its predecessor."

- Folicur fungicide, manufactured by Bayer CropScience, has received registration for suppression of Fusarium head blight (scab) and control of rusts on wheat and barley crops. Folicur has been available for the past 11 years under Section 18 Specific Exemptions.
For best results, Folicur is to be applied preventatively at early flowering and should be used in combination with other cereal disease management tactics. Only one application may be applied using ground or aerial equipment and at a rate of 4 fluid ounces of formulated product per acre per year. Application may not be made within 30 days of harvest.
- Saf-T-Side, an EPA-registered spray oil from Brandt Specialty Formulations, is now available to organic growers after achieving OMRI (Organic Material Review Institute) listing. Saf-T-Side is a pre-emulsified smothering oil labeled for a broad range of crops and ornamentals. Produced using high-quality "Narrow Range" oil, it provides optimal pesticidal efficacy and durability, and minimal hazard to plants and the environment.
