Ontario Seed Data Online

An innovative online resource lets Ontario growers access local yield dates from seed companies and other sources.

Ontario corn and soybean growers now have a new online resource to help them assess the performance of corn and soybean genetics. The Farms.com Yield Data Center at www.YieldData.Farms.com is a new Web site that creates a one-stop, online location for Ontario growers who want to see how various corn and soybean seed products performed in 2008 before ordering seed for 2009.

The new site is sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred Ltd., Syngenta Seeds Canada, Pride Seeds, and Dekalb Canada. These companies gather a significant amount of weigh wagon data from across the province. This data will be posted to the Yield Data Center so that growers can see how their own yields compare to local seed company cooperator plots, which are usually farm-scale, multi-product trials. At the Yield Data Center home page, visitors can select and view the plot data from each sponsor.

In addition to seed company weigh wagon yield data, growers can also access the provincial performance trial data for both corn and soybeans and link to hybrid and variety comparison tools offered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
