One Hundred Million And Counting

Retailers and their grower-customers have helped the Ag Container Recycling Council (ACRC) reach the 100,000,000-pound milestone of its nationwide recycling program.

To celebrate, ACRC will host a celebration and public barbeque Oct. 6 at the largest collection site in the U.S., Southampton County Fairgrounds in Courtland, VA. As part of the celebration, ACRC’s contractor, U.S. Ag Recycling, will grind more than 15,000 high density polyethylene (HDPE) containers that have been triple-rinsed and delivered to the site by area pesticide users.

"We are proud of the fact that the recycling of 100 million pounds of HDPE plastic pesticide containers, as opposed to land filling, has resulted in a reduction of nearly 20,000 metric tons of carbon equivalent and we thank all of the ag chemical retailers, growers, pesticide applicators, and government officials that have contributed to this achievement," says Bill Spencer, Arysta LifeScience NA LLC, representing the 25 ACRC member companies that fund the program.

Founded in 1992 by leading manufacturers of crop protection products, ACRC funds and manages the collection and recycling of triple-rinsed plastic agricultural crop protection, specialty pest control, micronutrient/fertilizer, and/or adjuvant product containers. The containers are collected from 1,500 collection sites across the U.S. in a cost-effective manner that fosters public health and safety, environmental protection, resource conservation, and customer convenience. Plastic recovered in the program is used only in ACRC-approved products.
