More Spray Time

As our editors studied the rigs scheduled to appear at this summer’s shows, it became clear that manufacturers are answering new application trends by designing rigs to apply product later in the season. Plus, companies are offering more tank and boom sizes than ever.

For instance, with a true high clearance machine and a front-mount boom, drivers will be able to spray late into the season in tall corn with a Miller Nitro 4000 Series sprayer from Miller-St. Nazianz. Buyers can choose from five models ranging from 215 hp all the way up to 365 hp, with tank size options of 1,000, 1,200, 1,400, and a massive 1,600 gallons. Boom sizes range from 60 feet to 120 feet wide.

Precision Tank & Equipment — an authorized distributor for the Miller-built applicators — will also be featuring the Nitro 4000 High-Clearance Sprayer, which company reps say “is perfect for fungicide applications requiring 6-foot clearance.”

New for 2009, John Deere’s 4730 and 4830 Sprayers offer an optional high-clearance bundle package. These bundles increase sprayer height an additional 16 inches, allowing 76 inches of under-frame clearance. Operators can drive the self-propelled rigs through tasseled corn, minimizing crop damage.

Applicator- and corn-friendly with 50 inches of crop clearance, the GVM 6215 Predator is GVM’s most rugged, all-mechanical driven machine. It also boasts a hydraulic power adjust, allowing the applicator to hydraulically adjust the axles from the cab for different row widths. The company reports it will outperform many 4-wheel drive hydrostats in hilly and wet terrain.

New for 2010, both the Hagie STS14 and STS16 will be available with Hagie’s AWS (All-Wheel Steer), an option that reduces damage to the crop by leaving only one set of wheel tracks: rear wheels follow the same path as the front wheels. Both models are offered with the updated Hagie 120-foot boom.

Tank Capacities Highlighted

Case IH is introducing its new entry in the 800-gallon sprayer segment, the Patriot 3230 sprayer. It features a 220-hp Case IH engine and infinitely variable hydrostatic drive system and optimum weight distribution, maximizing horsepower to the ground and minimizing field compaction and rutting. Buyers can choose from either a stainless steel or poly product tank with either 2- or 3-inch product fill lines.

The RoGator brand from AGCO is gearing up on the summer circuit for the release of five new models this fall that will offer larger-capacity tanks, unmatched visibility on the road and in the field, and easier access to the cab. The new machines will continue to feature key design elements that have made RoGator so popular.

Stahly Field Applicators will feature several liquid and dry floaters and pre/post dry combos in two- and four-wheel drive. The company’s patent-pending full hydraulic steer with auto steer introduced three years ago has been very popular this year along with the outboard planetary axles it is using in most models today.
