In Memoriam: Dr. Earle Raun

Dr. Earle Raun, 84, a founding member of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants (NAICC), died July 6.

Raun, owner of Pest Management Co. in Lincoln, NE was a board certified entomologist and certified professional crop consultant – independent. He provided pest, nutrition and water management services on corn, soybeans, wildflowers, and prairie grasses in Nebraska, Iowa, and Colorado.

He was named Consultant of the Year by Ag Consultant and Fieldman magazine, a former sister publication to CropLife® magazine. His many other honors include induction into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement in 2008; the Service to NAICC Award, 2006; NAICC Consultant of the Year, 2005; Fellow of the Entomological Society of America, 2004; and Distinguished Entomologist by the American Registry of Professional Entomologists, 1986.

His current research was on the big bluestream midge in prairie grasses.

Born Aug. 28, 1924 in Sioux City, IA, he was an active member of many professional societies and had many scientific publications, education television programs and training films for adults and children, and other contributions.to his credit.

Raun was a member of the Capital City Squadron Civil Air Patrol and Crestwood Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia; four daughters, and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday, July 10 at Roper and Sons Chapel.
