Herbicides Show Growth

Across agriculture, herbicides enjoyed a healthy boost in sales in most regions in 2007 vs. 2006, according to aggregated retail sales data provided via the EZTrak® System.

Increased corn acreage would seem to explain year over year increases in the North Central and Northeast regions. In the South, drought-plagued regions likely tamped down late season herbicide use in many areas where increased corn acreage would have normally delivered an increase in herbicide use as well. Meanwhile, the West region experienced a significant boost in herbicide use despite droughts in California, perhaps driven by increased irrigated corn planting in the eastern section of the region.
