Fungicides Off The Hook In 2007

Buoyed by growers’ determination to squeeze every kernel of corn from every acre planted, fungicide sales blew up in the U.S. this year, according to retailer sales data supplied by EZ Trak™. Credible reports of a potential 10 bushel per acre yield bump in corn drove fungicide use significantly higher in the Midwest. And with the drop in cotton production and corresponding increase in corn production in the Mid-south and Southeast, a more modest but still significant increase in fungicide use was also experienced in those regions. The West, still suffering the effects of drought, show a slight decline in fungicide usage vs. 2006.
