Conference Offers CEUs For CCAs

For certified crop advisers looking to meet their credit requirements in various aspects of agricultural production, Ohio State University’s Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference is the place to be.

The conference boasts the largest certified crop adviser gathering in Ohio, with upwards of 400 CCAs throughout the Midwest attending the conference each year. This year’s event will be held February 25-26 at the McIntosh Center of Ohio Northern University in Ada, OH.

The conference will offer sessions eligible for continuing education credits that are normally difficult to obtain elsewhere.

“A total of 46.5 CEUs are being offered over the two days with an emphasis in conservation tillage. Soil and water credits are most coveted because they are the hardest to obtain. We have 8.5 soil and water credits available this year,” says Harold Watters, an Ohio State University Extension educator. “Certified crop advisers can get all they need under one roof by attending this conference.”

OSU Extension and the American Society of Agronomy partner to train certified crop advisers in areas of pest management, nutrient management, soil and water, crop production, and a host of other ag-related topics. Their scientific know-how and practical application expertise are invaluable tools in an industry driven by fluidity and evolution.

"CCAs crave the newest, latest, and greatest that will have an impact on them and their customers not only right now, but for tomorrow as well,” Watters says. “The Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference gives them what they need.”

This year’s conference will host more than 65 presenters offering information on a wide range of topics, from biofuels to nutrient management to precision agriculture. Presenters include speakers from nine universities, farmers, and industry representatives. In 2009, more than 400 certified crop advisers received CCA credits at the conference. They placed a value on their educational experiences at $16 per acre they manage.

The Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference is sponsored by OSU Extension, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Northwest Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Districts, U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Farm Service Agency, and the Ohio No-Till Council.
