Conference Joins Forces

Fertilizer was the focus of a two-day conference in California.

Some 250 people from California’s agricultural industry attended the two-day fertilizer conference in Tulare recently. Presenters gave talks on micronutrients, foliar fertilizer applications, plant nutrient and soil assessment tools, water in fertilization management, and manure management.

"We’re extremely pleased by the turnout for the conference," says Renee Pinel, president and CEO of the Western Plant Health Association (WPHA), a trade organization that represents fertilizer and crop protection product manufacturers in California, Arizona, and Hawaii. WPHA co-hosted the event along with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). "This is a clear demonstration that government and industry can work together to achieve a common purpose."

This was the first time that CDFA’s Fertilizer Research and Education Program joined forces with WPHA to present a conference on fertilizing technologies that addressed a wide range of topics confronting California agriculture.

CDFA and WPHA officials are already discussing preparations for another combined conference in 2008.
