Cereal Seed Treatment OK’d

Chemtura Corp. has received another in a series of recent EPA registrations for seed amendments, this one for a wheat and barley product.

RANCONA Apex seed treatment product allows the grower to access all the distinctive seed/seedling disease protective features of RANCONA in a ready-to-apply product for wheat and barley seed. RANCONA Apex is highly efficacious against a majority of seed and soil-borne fungi in the plant pathogenic fungal classes of Zygomycetes, Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, and Fungi Imperfect (Deuteromycetes) which cause seed decay, damping-off, and seedling blight. Like RANCONA 3.8 FS, it contains ipconazole, a triazole fungicide, but in a more user-friendly form.

Its microdispersion formulation is specially designed for cereal crops, providing good seed coloration, low dust, uniform coverage, ease of use, and excellent flowability of treated seeds.

“The introduction of RANCONA Apex, as well as RANCONA 3.8 FS and the earlier offer of Enhance AW, provides growers options to traditional seed treatment products that are a step change in seed/seedling protection for cereals, soybeans and dry beans,” says Mike McFatrich, North American business lead for Seed Enhancements. The release of these new seed treatment technologies is intended to provide product choices to meet the flexible treating requirements of those growers producing the targeted crops.
