United Cooperative Wins 2011 National Environmental Respect Award
July 18, 2011 United Cooperative, South Beaver Dam, WI, has been named the 2011 National Environmental Respect Award winner. The company was acknowledged for its environmental stewardship efforts in liquid crop nutrient storage, spill prevention and safety in the area of dry fertilizer.
David Cramer, President and CEO, also credited the company’s employees for helping to keep its environmental programs on track. “This is a team effort,” said Cramer, refering to winning the National award. “I would like to thank our employees for making this possible. Most of them couldn’t be here tonight because they are back home working, but we wouldn’t be up here in the first place without their contributions.”
Cramer added that winning the 2011 National award was a big bonus for United Cooperative, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. “This is the frosting on that birthday cake for us,” he said, holding the trophy above his head in thanks.
Reaching out to the community around South Beaver Dam is also in a day’s work for United Cooperative employees. The cooperative focuses its financial and volunteer support on ag-related organizations and rural emergency agencies.
The Environmental Respect Awards, sponsored by CropLife® magazine and DuPont Crop Protection, are the agricultural industry’s highest recognition for environmental stewardship among U.S. agricultural retailers, those who serve farmers and ranchers with the nutrients, pest control and agronomic information and services critical to effective crop production. Each year a panel of industry experts gathers to recognize achievement in environmental stewardship, professional excellence, and community involvement.
