CPS Summerdale: Professionalism Coming Through

For Location Manager Abby Taylor of Crop Production Services (CPS), Summerdale, AL, the ability to take initiative is a characteristic he values greatly in members of his staff. “I’ve got a very seasoned staff and we all work together well and everybody kind of helps out where they are needed,” says Taylor. “As a supervisor, I don’t have to ask any of them to do their jobs. They just do it on their own and that’s our professionalism as a staff coming through.”

Taylor shared a recent example of CPS Summerdale taking initiative when they learned of a local food pantry in peril. The pantry was in the process of moving to a new location and was in need of a truck in order to move some larger items. Unfortunately, at the time the pantry lacked the funds needed to rent a truck, so CPS Summerdale offered to loan them one of their trucks for the afternoon, along with some workers to help move the items, free of charge.

“When I found out what they were doing, I said ‘This is something that we’ve got to do, it’s just really part of our civic duty to help these guys out’, and we went and volunteered our help,” says Taylor. “It was at a time when we weren’t really all that busy, nobody was planting yet, and we had a truck with a lift gate available, so we just sent some people down there and helped out.”

CPS Summerdale also realizes they are in a very competitive industry and they strive to ensure employees always conduct themselves with that fact in mind.

“It’s one of our sayings that ‘the customer can call anyone he wants to’,” says Taylor. “It’s going to be our level of service that makes the difference and sets us apart from the competition. That’s what we live by.”

As far as safety is concerned, CPS Summerdale is on quite the streak currently, having gone over four-and-a-half years between accidents.

“We keep a very clean facility — from our equipment all the way down to our grounds — we take pride in where we work and what we do,” says Taylor.
