Bluestem Aerial Sprayers: An Air Of Respect

As a self-proclaimed outdoorsman with a “deep appreciation of wildlife and natural plant life,” Kevin Brown, owner of Bluestem Aerial Sprayers LLC, in Cushing, OK, takes environmental stewardship as seriously as most folks in these parts take their Sooner football. “I view this as my duty to protect the environment,” says Brown. “Stewardship of the land is important to me and my rancher clients. If we don’t take care of the land, we have no future.”

Several initiatives at Bluestem, an aerial application and consulting operation that does not handle any fertilizer or bulk agriculture chemicals, are ensuring the future that Brown speaks of remains bright. The company currently has a seeding contract with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to seed several lakes in the state for duck and goose habitat, and they fly each customer over their ranches and fields each year to help them assess any control planning or conservation issues that could arise from aerial applications.

Additionally, the company makes sure local residents and officials stay in-the-know, hosting an annual community open house every spring that brings customers, elected officials, local Tribal officials and the Department of Agriculture together to tour the facility. Bluestem also takes its role in the local economy quite seriously, and they make annual financial contributions to the local Cattleman’s Association, Boy Scout Troop and county livestock shows.
